Under the guidance of the VP-Communications, assists with daily communications work, including positioning of IYI communications work in social media, preparation and distribution of news releases, production of Kids Count Radio Minutes and the Kids Count Radio Show, and preparation of reports for sponsors.

Assists in the production of the Kids Count Radio show, including:
-
Helps in the booking of guests
-
Helps to coordinate use of sponsor materials during scheduled shows
-
Helps prepare taping schedule and supporting documents and provides to show host and technical producer at Emmis Communications
-
Prepares thank you letters/e-mails for show guests
-
In conjunction with the Program Associate-Outreach and Communications:
-
Coordinates distribution of give-away materials
-
Maintains the show archive Excel spreadsheet
-
Produces and distributes appeal letter to program managers requesting they air Kids Count Radio Show.

Assists in the production of the Kids Count Radio Minutes, including:
-
Researches Web and printed news for potential topics
-
Works with the Program Associate-Outreach and Communications and Project Manager for Business and Information Technology to ensure quarterly duplication and mailing of Radio Minutes
-
Prepares E-mail notifying station contacts of the upcoming arrival of the Minutes and letter to be included with the Minutes.

Helps maintain updated list of radio station contacts for Kids Count Minutes
-
Works with Customer Service/Webmaster to ensure Minutes are posted on IYI Web site.

Assists in all media-related facets of the Indiana Youth Investment Awards Prize Patrols, including:
-
securing mayoral proclamations for winners
-
researching appropriate members of the Indiana House, Indiana Senate and Indiana Congressional delegations to invite to prize patrol events
-
writing and distributing news releases and media advisories
-
pitching events to local media
-
follow up on logging earned media.

Writes and transmits “standard” releases such as trainings and annual announcements (ie, YIA nominations), calendar events, and others as assigned.

Assists in the production of IYI in the News e-mail to staff and board
-
Researches Indiana media Web sites to help IYI identify “hot topics” in youth development
-
Reviews Indiana radio and TV station schedules and programs for potential opportunities to place IYI on local programs and obtains contact information for personal responsible for the show.

Looks for ways to use social media to increase the reach of IYI’s media efforts.

Updates and maintains communications timeline in conjunction with VP-Communications and provides reminders of upcoming deadlines
-
Updates and maintains Media List and Kids Count Minutes Media List Excel worksheets that are used for news release and KC Minutes distribution.

In the absence of the Program Associate-Outreach and Communications, updates and maintains Media Tracking Excel worksheet through daily monitoring of Google Alerts, MediaIntel Web-based clipping service, Web research and follow through on scheduled media interviews. In addition to daily maintenance, use file to:

Prepare media hit reports and clips when requested (reports to funders, board, elected officials, etc.)

File clips in both office folders and electronic folders on Mediaintel Website.

Help in preparation of internal quarterly reports.

Works with VP-Communications to pitch IYI stories to media across the state
-
Schedules media interviews for President and CEO of the Indiana Youth Institute in the absence of the VP-Communications

Assists in coordination of media visits for the President and CEO of the Indiana Youth Institute.
Minimum Qualifications:
The person filling this position requires the following skills:

The ability to write and edit quickly, efficiently and effectively
-
Familiarity with the Internet and news media operations
-
Management and organizational skills to effectively fulfill special project assignments
-
The ability to relate effectively with staff, clients, and members of the media
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
-
Familiarity with AP and Chicago Style manuals
Hours: 15-20 per week
